Ordering
To commission a portrait, contact me and let me know your requirements. To commence work I require a 25% non-refundable deposit* with the balance due on completion.
Your portrait will be created in coloured pencil, using only high quality Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran D’Ache Pablos and Luminance and Derwent Lightfast oil based pencils. I use Clairefontaine Pastelmat and Polydraw Drafting Film, which are both brilliant surfaces to capture colour and texture, so perfect for animal portraits.
Quotes are valid for 3 months.
*In the unfortunate case where I have to cancel your portrait, I will refund your deposit in full.
Prices
Prices are based on one head and shoulders. Sizes are based on paper size, and your portrait will be a good size within the paper area. Please contact me to discuss portraits that have more than one subject or if you require other sizes. Prices do not include postage and packing (see the postage section below).

Photograph requirements
My style is very detailed and based on realism, so I ask for a good quality, clear photograph. A digital image is preferred, but I can work from a hard copy if that’s what you have. I am happy to work with poorer quality images if absolutely necessary, but please be aware that I won’t be able to create a highly detailed portrait from an unclear photo.
An example of a good reference photograph is of the leopard. It’s well composed and the subject fills the frame, with good lighting and lots of detail.
The photograph of Jazz the dog is a good example of lots of wrongs: the subject is small in the frame and blurred – if I enlarge the photo there will be no detail from which to create a highly detailed portrait. The photo is also over-exposed (taken in bright sunlight), and the dog’s true colours aren’t shown. When photographing your furred or feathered friend it’s best to wait for an overcast day or find some shade.
Postage and packing
To ensure that your portrait reaches you in perfect condition it will be wrapped in an acid-free acetate sleeve and carefully bubble wrapped. It will then be packaged using either a double skinned box or strong cardboard. I ship worldwide, so please contact me for postage and packing costs.
